World Academy of Sport (WAoS) welcomes Chadwick International School in South Korea to the AFEC network! As an accredited Athlete Friendly Education Centre, the school joins our global network of institutions committed to helping student-athletes reach their sporting dreams while achieving academic success.
Due to current restrictions on travel and for health & safety reasons, the Olympians AFEC assessors could not meet school members and student-athletes in person, however the virtual assessment visit was extremely successful. The assessors spoke with key staff, student-athletes and even alumni now studying in the USA. It was clear that students at Chadwick International School learn how to balance school work and felt supported alongside co-curricular activities and their personal lives. The athletes also learn to both lead and support teammates, to respect their opponents, and to persevere through challenges on and off the field. David Snipes, Athletic Director and College Counselor at Chadwick International School, shared his thoughts on the school’s experience of going through the AFEC accreditation process:
“Everyone at Chadwick International is incredibly excited about being accredited as an AFEC; both in terms of the validation the accreditation gives to our current school-wide Athletics Program, as well as the amazing developments that we know are to come with the support of the World Academy of Sport and the network of AFEC schools. The accreditation process itself was enriching for all stakeholders involved, including for our current and former student-athletes who took part in the process and gained so much from connecting with the outstanding team of Olympians who directed the virtual visit. We are looking forward to continuing to support our student-athletes in all of their endeavors, and to enhancing our Athletics Program as we remain committed to growth year on year on year.”
WAoS asked its three Olympian AFEC assessors to comment on the experience of working with Chadwick International School through the assessment process. For these Olympians, it was the first opportunity to work with a school through an AFEC accreditation.
Akiko Thomson-Guevara OLY, currently based in the Philippines, praised the school:
“Congratulations to Chadwick International School for their successful AFEC accreditation. It was a joy to meet and work with the school which is blessed to have leadership that really values and desires to support student-athletes. I think we all knew it was just a matter of time, with a little fine tuning, before their accreditation came along. I look forward to hearing about the successes of the school in the future.”
Conrad Francis OLY, based in Indonesia, complimented and was inspired by the schools commitment and support it shows to its student-athletes:
“I am inspired with the support that Chadwick extends to student-athletes to pursue their sporting career. Being part of the AFEC group of schools, I have no doubt Chadwick will go from strength to strength and be an example to many other organisations.”
Finally, Nikki Hamblin OLY currently in Hong Kong:
“It was great to be part of the accreditation visit to Chadwick International School. The desire of the school to support student-athletes to achieve both their academic and sporting goals was clear. It was a privilege to learn about the ways they do this and the positive impact it has on current students and alumni.”
Congratulations to Chadwick International School! The team at WAoS looks forward to working with Chadwick International School further enhance their existing programmes and support their student-athletes in better balancing academic and sporting commitments.
