Mas Camarena International School recently completed a very promising AFEC accreditation process. The team of Olympian AFEC Assessors put together by World Academy of Sport (WAoS) had insightful meetings with the Head Director, Head of Athletes, Guidance Counsellor, Athlete Coordinator, IB Coordinators, as well as student-athletes studying at Mas Camarena International School. Everyone involved in this virtual visit made the assessment team feel like they were meeting in-person, allowing them to get a deeper understanding of the excellent support provided to student-athletes at the school.
Jennifer Brockert, International Department & Erasmus + Coordinator at Mas Camarena International School, appreciated the expertise of the assessors throughout the virtual visit:
“The Mas Camarena Staff and Head Director all commented to one another that the visit was stress-free, easy-going, and yet very productive. We enjoy visits such as this as it allows us to review our strengths and weaknesses in different areas related to our athletes. Although our school is ranked 6th in Spain and we have an excellent education system, this is a new programme for us and we highly value the positive comments, recommendations, and insight from the experts who have experienced the difficult issues we deal with daily in relation to these student-athletes. We are overjoyed to have an organisation such as WAoS to accompany our school and student-athletes on this journey to academic success.”
Mas Camarena International School is a private multilingual centre with a Spanish curriculum alongside the International Baccalaureate programme in all levels of study. This year, the school celebrates its 25th anniversary and its successful journey places the school amongst the best in Spain. It continues to maintain its 1st position in the Valencian Community for over 10 years in the Ranking of the 100 Best Schools in Spain from the newspaper El Mundo.
Mas Camarena is characterised by being an ‘active’ school, evolving each year with its own Educational Project based on the best international methodologies, so that each of its students learn to grow academically and personally and contribute to building a better world. It is the only school in Valencia with the authorisation to provide all International Baccalaureate programmes, including the Career-related Programme.
David Harte OLY, Olympian AFEC Assessor from Ireland, noted a special comment received from one of the student-athletes he met with during the virtual assessment visit:
“It was a pleasure to have been a part of the assessment team of Mas Camarena International School. It was clear to see the efforts that the school and their staff go to allow their student-athletes to achieve their best both on the field of play and in the classroom. An expression that stood out during the day was from a student-athlete who we had the benefit of meeting with saying that ‘our teachers really care about our performances both sporting and academic’.”
WAoS congratulates Mas Camarena International School for its successful AFEC accreditation and looks forward to working with them to further enhance their existing programmes and offerings to support their student-athletes working hard in their respective sports and academics.
